About Me
Hello, I’m Andrea—the Word Engineer—a freelance copyeditor currently based in Mexico. “Words possess power and I get to wield them every day.” This motto fuels my passion for assisting authors worldwide in sharing their unique stories and messages. My journey into the world of words began during the pandemic, a time when I sought a more fulfilling path aligned with my passion for supporting creative voices. Check out my portfolio here.
Qualifications
My academic background includes a bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Florida, a specialized Certificate in Copyediting from UC San Diego Extended Studies, a Certificate in Editing from Poynter Institute/ACES, and a Certificate in English Language Teaching Adults (CELTA) from the University of Cambridge (Cambridge English).
I take pride in continuous professional development and am an active member of the Editorial Freelancers Association. My continuous education includes completing courses such as Beginning Line Editing, Intermediate Copyediting, Beginning Copyediting, Copyediting Fiction, Professional Beta Reader, and Guiding Your Clients to Successfully Self-Publish.
Mission
At the core of my editing philosophy is a steadfast commitment to the author’s message and vision. I am unwavering in my dedication to preserving the author’s distinctive voice and intentions with each edit. Meticulous attention to detail is my hallmark. As your collaborative partner in the publication process, I am dedicated to ensuring your manuscript tells your story in the most compelling and effective way possible.
When Not Editing
When I’m not engineering words, I can be found traveling and experiencing a new city somewhere in the world, devouring a book, or rereading one of my favorite novels, The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho.
